SupaChat was first released in October 2023 as an open-source AI chat starter for Next.js and Supabase. It is now in its fifth version, MIT-licensed, and has its own website at supa-chat.dev.
What is included
- Chat with documents: PDFs are OCR'd and searched with hybrid vector and keyword retrieval, with page-level citations
- An artifacts workspace where documents are drafted live, with version history and export
- Long-term memory that can be reviewed, edited and deleted
- Charts, dashboards and small interactive tools rendered in a sandboxed frame
- PDF generation, web search and image generation
- Per-token usage dashboards with cache-aware cost estimates
Production architecture
Authentication uses Supabase SSR with row-level security on every table, and prompt caching serves multi-step tool turns from cache at around a tenth of the input price. One SQL file sets up the whole schema, the policies and the search function.
